ProsperUs Open Call for Applications - Milestones 2 & 3 Out-of-School Time Solutions

ProsperUs has recently completed designing solutions for Milestones 2 and 3, in partnership with Community Action Network (CAN) working groups comprised of neighbourhood youth and residents with lived experience, front-line service providers, and other subject matter experts.

Milestone 2 - students who are proficient in reading in Grade 3 are more likely to graduate high school

Milestone 3 - students who are proficient in math in Grade 6 are more likely to complte post-secondary and be prepared for the workforce

ProsperUs is seeking community organizations that can support the delivery of new out-of-school time solutions for elementary aged children in West Windsor, Downtown Windsor, and Leamington.

Out-of-school time solutions can be structured programming related to academic supports, mentoring, recreation activities, arts and culture enrichment activities, and system navigation for children and their families.

Organizations interested in applying are required to attend one Information Session. This information session will walk you through the application process and provide time for questions and answers.

ECSF Web Header

In May 2020, the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) was created by the Government of Canada to provide financial support to charities and other qualified donees adapting their frontline services to support vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fund is being administered by United Way Centraide Canada, Community Foundations of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross in communities from coast to coast. United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County is proud to support the investment of $1.76 million into our local community.

ECSF Funded Projects

United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex accepted ECSF applications from any charitable organization serving Windsor-Essex County that is focused on addressing the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable populations.

In Round One in spring 2020, United Way received 58 applications totaling over $3.5M in requested funding. We were able to invest $1,339,890 in 35 projects providing a range of supports to vulnerable populations across Windsor and Essex County.

In October 2020, the Government of Canada released the balance of funding and a second call for applications was launched. In Round Two, United Way received 38 applications totaling over $1.05M in requested funding. We were able to invest $399,650 in 24 additional projects.

Active Care Response Team (ACRT)
Standing in the Gap for Migrant Farm Workers
This project will facilitate connection with 1500 migrant workers to provide personal care kits, access to translators, transportation to medical appointments, and ongoing wellness checks.

Autism Society Ontario (Windsor-Essex Branch)
At-Home Activities Project
Providing at-home activity kits for 1000 children and youth with autism to during COVID-19.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor Essex
Virtual After School Group Mentoring
After school program for 48 children and youth ages 6-16 waiting to be matched in a 1:1 mentoring relationship.

Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch
Client Assistance Fund
This project will provide short-term support to 200 clients who are experiencing financial hardship.

Community Support Centre of Essex County
Wellness Wednesdays
This project will expand virtual wellness and physical activities by creating a virtual program platform. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project.

Community Refugee Fund
Access to Technology Project
The project will assist newcomer refugees that normally would have direct access to settlement providers and agencies in accessing services during COVID-19 by ensuring they have the required technology. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project.

Connections An Early Years Family Centre Inc.
Virtual Service and Support Program
Training, support, and capacity building services to 85 families with young children experiencing social isolation.

Diocese of London Refugee Ministries
Settlement Services Project
This project will provide technology to enable continued service for refugee claimants and those with precarious immigration status. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project.

Easter Seals Ontario
Off Season Virtual and At-Home Camp
This project will provide new virtual programming and at-home supports to 130 vulnerable children and youth with disabilities who are socially isolated due continued COVID-19 restrictions.

Essex County Chinese Canadian Association
Community Connections Project
Providing social support and information, and tools to comfort and empower 25 vulnerable Chinese seniors facing COVID-19 isolation.

Housing Information Services
Homelessness & Housing Help Hub
This project provides necessary supplies to operate a place for 400 people experiencing homelessness to go to during the day while complying with safety protocols.

Kidney Foundation of Canada (Windsor-Essex Chapter)
Emergency Short-Term Financial Assistance
This project will provide assistance with basic needs during COVID-19 for 15 individuals.

Lasalle Hangout for Youth
COVID-19 Family Relief Program
This project will ensure ongoing supports are provided to 300 youth and family members.

Matthew House Refugee Centre
Virtual Connection Hub Project
This will create a confidential, COVID-19 safe space for 75 refugee claimants to participate in the Refugee Hearing Program.

National Zakat Foundation
Nisa Homes Program
This project will provide remote casework, counselling, and children's programming for 20 additional at-risk Muslim women and their children. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project.

Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario, Windsor-Essex Chapter
Connection and Wellbeing Consultant
This project will provide 400 individuals will connection to ensure wellbeing and referral to appropriate supports during COVID-19.

South Asian Centre of Windsor
Translation Support for Health Information Services
This project will provide translation services for South Asian seniors receiving health information and social connection supports. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project.

Special Olympics Ontario (Windsor-Essex Chapter)
Equitable Sport and Health Program
This project will increase sport-specific virtual programming for 1000 Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Victorian Order of Nurses – Ontario Branch (Windsor-Essex)
Ontario Student Nutrition Program
This project will support 18,000 children/youth in 60 schools that are struggling to raise funds and shop for safe, prepackaged food for their Student Nutrition Programs that feed students in need.

Windsor Essex Children’s Aid Foundation
COVID Relief Packages for Youth
This project will provide packages supporting the health and well-being of 75 youth living independently.

Windsor Essex Children’s Aid Society
COVID-19 Relief Resource Room
This project will provide additional technology devices and other supplies to support Foster Parents during COVID-19. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project.

Windsor-Essex Transgender and Allied Support
Harm Reduction Chemical Dependency Program
Virtual harm reduction services will help members of the LGBTQ2+ community and allies who are seeking addiction support and who are not able to access in-person services due to COVID-19. This is an expansion of a Round 1 project to serve an additional 60 individuals.

The Windsor Residence for Young Men
Remote Education Liaison for At-Risk Youth
Mentorship, school liaising, emotional support, and system navigation for 15 homeless youth living in Transitional Housing who are attempting to adapt to changes in education due to COVID-19.

Youth Connection Association
Reading Project and Virtual Spelling Bee
This project will provide a reading program and virtual spelling bee to vulnerable youth to ensure social connection and education during COVID-19.

This camp will assist 48 children and youth ages 6-16 waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Brain Injury Association of Windsor Essex
Brain Connect Project
This project will provide virtual connectivity to support groups for 35 survivors and caregivers affected by a brain injury.

CommUnity Partnership
Safe at Home Project
This project will provide proactive and reactive services to 150 individuals, to prevent evictions within low-income housing resulting from the impacts of COVID-19.

Shelter Modifications Project
This project will ensure 50 individuals are provided shelter by supporting modifications and technology access that will enable operation at maximum capacity during COVID-19 restrictions.

LIFT RE:ACT Online Program
This program is an online version of a 90-day outpatient program that will support 50 individuals recovering from addictions and trauma.

Essex County Chinese Canadian Association
COVID-19 Modifications
This project will provide personal protective equipment and allow for office modifications required as a result of COVID-19.

Family Services Windsor-Essex
COVID-19 Counselling Support Line
A 24/7 telephone and counselling line offering qualified counsellors to provide immediate telephone counselling, support and referral services to individuals 16 years of age and older who are in need of mental health support and/or practical referrals and information (i.e. financial support) due to issues associated with and related to COVID-19.

Global Resource Centre & Justice for Migrant Workers
Supports for Migrant Workers
This initiative will provide culturally appropriate food, personal protective equipment, and educational resources for temporary foreign workers in Essex County.

This service will help to support 100 low-income individuals, newcomers, and marginalized community members by accessing technology to participate in legal proceedings and other essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This project will supply medical tools to allow for continued provision of community-based home nursing care for over 1200 individuals while maintaining a safe patient environment and decreasing potential spread of COVID-19.
