Windsor, ON – In cooperation with the Federal government, United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County is supporting local service organizations that serve vulnerable residents affected by COVID-19 with an additional investment of almost $400,000. On Friday it announced the recipients of that support.
In October 2020, United Way was granted a second round of funding through the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF). United Way is responsible for evaluating the applications for funding and reporting back to the Federal government on how the funds were used. Over the past month, United Way received 38 applications totaling $1.05 million in funding requests.
“It’s really important that these funds get into the community quickly so that the social safety net remains ready to support people. United Way is uniquely positioned to work with local organizations to ensure no one is left behind in this extremely difficult time,” says Lorraine Goddard, CEO, United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County.
The Fund provides financial support to charities and other qualified donees adapting their frontline services to support vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ECSF is being administered in collaboration with United Way Centraide Canada, Community Foundations of Canada, and the Canadian Red Cross.
During the most recent round of applications in October, United Way and its volunteer Community Impact Council approved support totaling $399,650 for 24 more programs and services. In spring 2020, United Way distributed $1,339,890 to 35 programs and services, bringing the total investment in our community to $1.74 million, serving 59 programs and services. The latest programs to receive support include:
- Active Care Response Team – Standing in the Gap for Migrant Farm Workers (Health & Outreach Supports)
- Autism Society Ontario – At Home Activities Project
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor-Essex – Virtual After School Group Mentoring
- Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex – Client Assistance Fund
- Community Refugee Fund – Round 1 Project Expansion: Access to Technology Project
- Community Support Centre of Essex County – Round 1 Project Expansion: Wellness Wednesdays Virtual Wellness Program
- Connections An Early Years Family Centre Inc. – Virtual Service and Program Support During COVID-19
- Easter Seals Ontario – Off Season Virtual and At-Home Camp
- Essex County Chinese Canadian Association – Seniors Community Connections Project
- Housing Information Services of Windsor & Essex County – Homelessness & Housing Help Hub
- Kidney Foundation of Canada, Windsor-Essex Chapter – Short-Term Client Financial Assistance
- LaSalle Hangout for Youth – Family Relief and Wellness Program
