A new provincial report released by the Windsor-Essex Community Benefits Coalition and United Way aiming to dispel the myth the community benefits agreements can't work for rural, small, and mid-sized communities.
The Building Community Wealth: What is possible in rural, small and mid-sized communities report hopes to shine a light on what is possible by highlighting policies that are already in place or are forthcoming to empower communities to demand more than the status quo from local development projects.
The report explores how for a marginal upfront investment, communities can experience long-term dividends through more prosperous local economies by formalizing community benefits in the development process. The report is endorsed by 25 agencies, businesses and groups across the province and is available to download at www.windsoressexcb.ca. The Windsor-Essex Community Benefits Coalition and United Way would like to thank the Atkinson Foundation for social and economic justice for supporting the creation of this report.
